Light and spacious classrooms enable pupils to flourish

Prestigious independent school The Perse in Cambridge is renowned for academic excellence. In a continued commitment to improving educational facilities, school leaders commissioned a large new classroom block.

The modern design by architects Sheppard Robson Ltd included 18 classrooms on ground and first floors and a versatile open-plan, multi-use space on the second floor. The new stand-alone block joins to existing facilities via a bridge link.

Responding to favourable ground conditions, AFP engineers designed highly economic pad/strip foundations along with a ground bearing slab which saved time, resources and budget. We proposed a reinforced concrete frame for the main floor structure and added a steel pitched roof structure on top.
