Mixed-use urban development relies on comprehensive engineering design.

On a site totalling 1.4 acres of central redevelopment, established developer Turnstone Estates delivered an 81 bed Travelodge hotel, over 25,000 sq ft of retail space and 12 private residential apartments.

The original site contained the Army & Navy pub alongside a timber yard, car parking and houses. Following demolition, AFP managed site remediations including the removal of ground contamination, sewer diversion and highway alterations. Cement stabilisation of the soft ground was used to provide a suitable base for piling, ground slabs and external hardstanding.

To accommodate the differing needs housed on this mixed-use development, our team detailed structures to achieve high values of sound attenuation both horizontally (through walls) and vertically (through floor slabs). A Metsec dry walling system was utilised to speed up construction by reducing drying time needed for wet trades.

Within the hotel unit, pre-finished bathroom pods were installed which could be efficiently connected and completed.

We also supported the organisation of Party Wall Notices with affected neighbouring properties and provision of sustainability features from rainwater harvesting to roof mounted solar panels.
