Structural Repairs to tower, kitchen and new extension
This major project for the church involved significant repairs to the tower structure where cracking to the wall had developed over the years at different levels.
Waterproofing defects at the tower roof level had allowed damage to occur to the supporting structure and in particular to the centre ridge beam where the support to the flagpole had allowed water ingress to cause significant damage. The initial investigations indicated the problem to be relatively localised but on opening up the damage was extensive requiring complete replacement of the ridge.
This was a particular challenge because of the size and weight of the necessary timber member required. The access difficulties required the beam to be provided in laminate sections to minimise the weight to be lifted into positions. The individual pieces were glued and bolted together insitu.
The single storey rendered blockwork extension to the north entrance has provided much needed new kitchen facilities for the church members.
